Online-Safety

Online Safety is an important aspect of keeping our pupils safe at Sandown. We have comprehensive measures in place to safeguard our children from potential dangers and unsuitable material. Online Safety is an integral part of our Computing curriculum taught to all year groups. We also hold regular whole school online safety events to help our pupils keep safe online.

As part of our partnership with parents we encourage parents to speak to their children about how the can keep safe and behave appropriately online.  It’s essential to be realistic - banning the internet or technology will not work and it often makes a child less likely to report a problem. This means that education around safe use is essential. If you're concerned about any aspects of Online Safety contact our Computing Coordinator Mrs Oakman via the school office and she will be pleased to help.

SOS

Sandown's Online Safety task group met 6 times this year. We invited Parents. Governors, Pupils, Teachers, our Local Engagement Officer PC Eastes and even our MP Amber Rudd to our sessions. Each session had a focus on Online Safety, including current local issues such as County Lines and Bluetoothing in the community.

Google Assembly

On Friday 26th April Google visted Sandown to deliver an assembly to KS2 pupils, Parents and Governors about Staying Safe Online. The children learnt the importance of ensuring they have a strongly secure password, never sharing personal information online and what to do if they suspect there is a problem.
