World Book Day- Thursday 5th March 2020
This year's World Book Day is looking to be the best one yet! As well as dressing up as our favourite book characters, we also have the famous author and poet Brian Moses coming to visit the school for the day. He will be doing a whole school assembly, visiting classrooms and doing writing workshops. Here are a couple of his poems if you want to share these with the children before WBD.
Brian Moses will be in the hall (or maybe outside the front if it is a nice day) after school for a book signing. You can buy the books from him there; they will cost between £4.99 and £7.99. You can look at the books on his website here if you would like to: www.brianmoses.co.uk
We will also be doing an optional 'decorate a wooden spoon as your favourite book character'. This is something the children can do at home, if they choose to, and we will get Brian Moses to judge them (adults and teachers are also welcome to enter).
Bubbly Maths- Wednesday 11th March
Sandown are excited to announce that we will be welcoming Bubbly Maths into school on Wednesday 11th March to run two interactive workshops for all children. The sessions will be engaging and interactive. Children will learn about different mathematical concepts that apply to everyday life.
The sessions are funded by the Hastings Opportunity Area Fund so they are free for all children to attend. The sessions will take place during the school day.
With the help of Heart & Sole, Sandown are putting together a walking and running team to take part in the Hastings Half Marathon on Sunday 29th March 2020.
All monies raised from these sessions will be donated to St. Michael's Hospice in loving memory of Lorrie Csobonas.
Children in Need- Friday 15th November 2019
Thank you for supporting Children in Need on Friday 15th November. By wearing odd socks we raised £204.09 for this charity.
Harvest Festival- Monday 23rd September
WOW! Thank you to everyone who sent in donations for today’s Harvest Festival, we are overwhelmed by your generosity.
All of your donations will go to Dom’s Food Mission to help feed people in the community who are less fortunate.
Dom’s Food Mission will not only use the food to feed communities but will also use your donations to teach families life skills, learning how to save surplus foods and also teaching children to cook hearty meals for the family within their charity project ‘a helping hand.’
So from everyone at Sandown and at Dom’s Food Mission- THANK-YOU ❤️

Ore in Bloom Winners 2019
Fantastic news- Sandown won Best Community Garden AND Tallest Sunflowers at the Ore in Bloom contest.
The garden was judged by the Head Gardener from Fairlight Hall who thinks our school gardens and Sandown Outdoors is wonderful. Well Done everyone who has dug, planted, seeded and watered. #growingcommunities
Amber Rudd MP visits Sandown
In term 1 our local MP Amber Rudd visited Sandown to see our Outdoor Learning space. In July we won money from Octopus Energy and this was used to develop our Outdoor space so that all classes could have access to it.
Amber met with the children who had written letters to the local suppliers and the Sandown Outdoor Team- she had a wonderful time exploring the woods and meeting the chickens.

Sandown's Legacy Garden
Our newly built Legacy Garden is ready to celebrate our year 6 leaving. It will become the perfect place to enjoy some quiet time- just beautiful.
Thank you to the PTA and Gardeners who have helped make this possible.
Last term the Christian Schools Workers visited Sandown and set up a prayer and reflection space in the cabin. The space was open for the whole week and all the children got a chance to visit the cabin. It was even open at lunchtimes as well.
The theme of the reflective space was ‘Fun of the Fair’ and the children got to engage in a range of activities. These activities focused on; what make a good friend, worries, trying new things, taking on new challenges, being an individual, forgiveness and feelings.
The Great British Spring Clean
On Thursday 21st March a group of pupils from years 4, 5 and 6 took part in the #GBSpringClean. The Great British Spring Clean is a mass-action environmental campaign with three goals- to eliminate litter, end waste and improve places.
This group of pupils and their families worked together to pick up unnecessary litter in Malvern Way to create clean and sustainable paths and green space.
Along with The Baird, who we met half way, the children and their families worked really hard to care for the environment on our doorstep and had lots of fun whilst doing it.
Today’s young people are the key to eliminating litter and ending waste for now and for future generations. Please do your bit to educate your children about waste and work together to improve the environment and the streets that you live in.
Let’s all ‘be the best that we can be!!’#teamsandown #community
Well done and thank you to everyone involved!!
